A Definition of Roles Within the CUCSA committee

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The following list outlines the roles on the CUCSA committee as agreed upon by the committee. Committee members are elected for one year at the time.

President (minimum of one year at the Dumfries campus)
The President of CUCSA has overall responsibility for the running and direction of CUCSA, ensuring it is always achieving the best outcomes for students and supporting them throughout their time on the Dumfries campus.The President is the figurehead of the organisation and will be working with external bodies such as the Crichton Foundation ensuring that student’s views are heard on campus. They represent students from all intuitions on campus and can be a student studying at either of the institutions. They are responsible for calling and chairing CUCSA meetings and setting the agenda. The president must have already studied at the Dumfries campus for a minimum of twelve months and can be a matriculated student from any institution.

 

Vice President (UofG) (minimum of six months at the Dumfries campus)
The Vice President (UofG) is the main student representative for their university and will actively work to promote student involvement for the University of Glasgow. VPs as a whole are expected to support the President in the everyday running of CUCSA and be available for meetings, liaisons etc. when needed. They will be expected to assist with internal meeting agendas and minutes, as well as act as a source of knowledge for other CUCSA members, should they need to get into contact with a student or staff member. The Vice President will always be open and available to members of their university, should they need support, guidance, information or advice. This role can be filled only by a matriculated UofG student who has been studying for at least 6 months.

Vice President (UWS) (minimum of six months at the Dumfries campus)
The Vice President (UWS) is the main student representative for their university and will actively work to promote student involvement for the University of the West of Scotland. VPs as a whole are expected to support the President in the everyday running of CUCSA and be available for meetings, liaisons etc. when needed. They will be expected to assist with internal meeting agendas and minutes, as well as act as a source of knowledge for other CUCSA members, should they need to get into contact with a student or staff member. The Vice President will always be open and available to members of their university, should they need support, guidance, information or advice.This role can be filled only by a matriculated UWS student who has been studying for at least 6 months.

Social Convenor
The Social Convener takes the lead on organising all social events and activities for the students of the Crichton campus. This includes taking a lead on the organisation of the fresher’s week social events. They have the responsibility to form sub-committees, should that be deemed necessary, for the planning of certain events throughout the year. Further, the Social Convener is responsible for coordinating the Assistant Social Convener(s), splitting and dedicating tasks with the purpose of ensuring the sustainability of the role. This role can be filled by a matriculated student from any institution.

Sports, Clubs & Societies Convenor
The Sports, Clubs and Societies Convenor is responsible for supporting and promoting the establishment and effective running of clubs and societies on campus. They will act as the liaison officer between newly established clubs and the CUCSA committee. They are responsible for advising on matters of constitution and funding for new clubs and societies. This role can be filled by a matriculated student from any institution.

Marketing & Press Officer
The Marketing Officer will promote and market CUCSA on social media and the website. Full responsibility of the online accounts will be given to the role holder and as such, must act accordingly. They will also be expected to divide tasks to the Assistant roles, if filled. This role can be filled by a matriculated student from any institution.

Charities Officer
The Charities Officer is responsible for the charitable actives of CUCSA. Liaising with volunteer organisations to promote volunteering for the students and also taking the lead on organising charity events on campus and in the community. This role can be filled by a matriculated student from any institution.

Welfare Officer
The Welfare Officer is responsible for raising awareness of welfare issues on campus. This includes coordinating the welfare-orientated events; sign-posting local services and organisations and playing an advisory and supporting role for students.

Assistant Sports, Clubs and Societies Officer (x3)
The Assistant Sports, Clubs and Societies Officer will have an added input into the activities on the campus. They will be expected to support the clubs, societies and sports teams. This role can be filled by a matriculated student from any institution.

Assistant Social Convenor (x3)
The Assistant Social Convener will have an added input into the social events and activities on the campus. They will learn to lead events sub-committees created by the Social Convener and encourage further social engagement among the student population. This role can be filled by a matriculated student from any institution.

Assistant Marketing & Press Officer (x3)                                                                                                The Assistant Marketing and Press Officer will be expected to perform and assist the Marketing & Press officer in their tasks. They will learn to post appropriately on and maintain the appearance of CUCSA’s social media and website. This role can be filled by a matriculated student from any institution.       

Postgraduate Representative                                                                                                                This role may be filled if a postgraduate student is already present within another role, but is available if unfilled. The Postgradute Representative will be asked to present the views of their institution and any associated postgraduate courses therein. They will be the main spokesperson available for a large number of students and should actively be seeking to provide help and advice for any postgraduates who may need it. This role can be filled by a matriculated postgraduate student from any institution.  

All CUCSA executive members are required to contribute to the improvement of the student experience on the Dumfries campus and promote the aims of CUCSA, those being; The advancement of education, The advancement of citizenship and community development, The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture and science, The promotion of equality and diversity and The advancement of health.
