Taxi Stewards in Dumfries

taxiDumfries and Galloway’s Alcohol and Drug Partnership, Police Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway’s Licensing Department are combining to employ SIA trained Taxi Stewards at the taxi rank, Loreburn Street, Dumfries.

The Taxi Stewards are solely there to deter any reports of anti-social behaviour, disorder and persons who may wish to act inappropriately. They will be clearly identifiable in florescent vests. They will also be in contact with the Police through the radiolink system and be visible through the local CCTV network.

The Taxi Stewards will be working Friday and Saturday nights from midnight to 4 am, besides black eye Friday (19 December) when they will be starting at 10 pm. This initiative will be on trial basis for every weekend in the lead up to Christmas and will also include January 1st and 2nd.

Members of the public and taxi drivers are encouraged to engage with the Taxi Stewards to ensure obtaining a taxi in Dumfries after midnight is without the potential for disorder or anti social behaviour.
