Scottish Parliament’s Communities Conference – 21st Feb

downloadmThe Scottish Parliament’s Communities Conference will be  taking place at the Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries on Saturday 21st February.

The Conference is completely FREE of charge to attend, and is open to anyone interested in learning how to engage effectively with MSPs and the Parliament. Lunch and refreshments are provided free of charge and travel costs for attendees will also be reimbursed.

The event starts formally at 9.45 am with registration from 9 am.

The day will consist of seven different workshops (further details on the attached document), each an hour in duration, and each being run four times during the course of the day. The workshops are:

  • ‘Help Me to Help You’: an MSPs View
  • Engaging Through Committees
  • Holding an Event or Exhibition at Holyrood
  • Cross Party Groups
  • Social Media
  • Working with Local Media
  • How to Submit a Public Petition

Further information on the Workshops can be found here: Dumfries Communities Conference Workshops

The conference is not a party political event. The workshops are entirely practical in focus, aimed at ‘skilling up’ local communities in how to engage with their MSPs and their Parliament. Also, the workshops will be chaired by MSPs from all the main parties represented at Holyrood.

Those from the conference are very excited about coming to Dumfries and are keen to have representatives from across the SW region attend what promises to be a useful, lively and enjoyable event.

Attendance is open to anyone in the student body however, for catering and other practical requirements, we do require people to book in advance. There is no limit to the number of people attending the event, but  please contact CUCSA as we do require confirmed names to be send to the Committees Conference group.

Please email us at mail@cucsa.org.uk if you would like to attend and we will add your name to the list.. Please include in your email your name, a contact phone number and which workshops you would like to attend (four from the seven list in the attachment) as well as any dietary requirements by 5pm on Saturday 14th February.
