A Definition of Roles Within the CUCSA executive

A list of the current active roles within the CUCSA executive and an outline of their responsibilities.

President

The President of CUCSA has overall responsibility for the running and direction of the CUCSA, ensuring it is always achieving the best outcomes for students and supporting them throughout their time on the Dumfries campus.

The President is the figurehead of the organisation and will be working with external bodies such as the Crichton Foundation ensuring that student’s views are heard on campus. They represent students from all intuitions on campus and can be a student studying at any of these institutions. They are responsible for calling and chairing CUCSA meetings and setting the agenda. The president must have already held a CUCSA position for a minimum of twelve months and can be a matriculated student from any institution.

Vice President (Glasgow University)

The Vice President for Glasgow University is responsible for ensuring that the interests and objectives of the University of Glasgow are being met by CUCSA. They ensure that Glasgow university students have a voice within the executive. In the absence of the president they are responsible for chairing CUCSA meetings. They have a right to a representative seat on the Glasgow University SRC council, and will support and liaise with the SRC interdisciplinary studies representative. Must have held a CUCSA positions for a minimum of six months and be a matriculated Glasgow University student.

Vice President (UWS)

The Vice President for UWS is responsible for ensuring that the interests and objectives of UWS are being met by CUCSA. They ensure that UWS students have a voice within the executive. In the absence of the president they are responsible for chairing CUCSA meetings. They have a right to a representative seat in SAUWS. Must have held a CUCSA positions for a minimum of six months and be a matriculated UWS student.

Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for keeping records on behalf of CUCSA. They take the minutes during CUCSA meetings and circulate agendas with other executive members ahead of meetings. They may also be required to engage in correspondence with external agencies on behalf of the executive. They are responsible for signing off the accounts on behalf of the executive at the end of the financial year. Can be a matriculated student from any institution.

Charities Representative

The Charities Representative is responsible for the charitable actives of CUCSA. Liaising with volunteer organisations to promote volunteering for the students and also taking the lead on organising charity events on campus and in the community. Can be a matriculated student from any institution.

Social Events Convener

The social events convener takes the lead on organising all social events and activities for the students of the Crichton campus. This includes taking a lead on the organisation of the fresher’s week social events. They have the responsibility to form sub-committees, should that be deemed necessary, for the planning of certain events throughout the year. Can be a matriculated student from any institution.

Marketing and Press Officer

The marketing and press officer is responsible for working, along with the other members of the executive and CUCSA affiliated sports clubs and societies, to promote and market CUCSA events and the sports clubs and societies on campus. They will play a leading role in the management of the CUCSA website and social media pages. Can be a matriculated student from any institution.

Sports and Societies Officer

The sports and societies officer is responsible for supporting and promoting the establishment and effective running of sports clubs and societies on campus. They will act as the liaison officer between newly established clubs and the CUCSA executive. They are responsible for advising on matters of constitution and funding for new clubs and societies. Can be a matriculated student from any institution.

Equality and Diversity Officer

The equality and diversity officer is responsible for ensuring that all events, clubs, sports teams and student forums are operated in an inclusive and anti-discriminatory way. They are responsible for ensuring that all groups on campus have a voice regardless of religion, race, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation or identity. Can be a matriculated student from any institution.

Mature Student Representative

The mature student representative is responsible for representing the position of mature students on the CUCSA executive. They are responsible for ensuring that CUCSA events and campaigns appeal to and are inclusive of mature students on the campus. Can be a matriculated student from any institution and does not need to be a mature student.

Postgraduate Representative

The postgraduate representative is responsible for representing the position of postgraduate students on the CUCSA executive. They are responsible for ensuring the CUCSA events and campaigns appeal to and are inclusive of postgraduate students on the campus. Can be a matriculated student from any institution. Must be a postgraduate student. *because of the nature of the postgraduate terms elections for this position will happen once a year in the autumn

Non-titled Executive members

The CUCSA executive has space for 10 non-titled executive members. These positions do not come with specific responsibilities. Non-titles executive members will be responsible for supporting the endeavours of CUCSA by upholding its primary objectives. They will be expected to join sub committees where appropriate and voice their ideas and input during CUCSA meetings. Depending on skills and enthusiasm for various projects non-titled executive members may be tasked with certain specific pieces of work by the president or one of the vice presidents. Non-titled members are expected to be “fresher’s helpers” during fresher’s week and will be included in the planning and execution of CUCSA events and campaigns throughout the year. Can be matriculated students from any institution.

Non-titled Executive members for sport

The CUCSA executive has space for 5 non-titled executive members for sports. In these positions executive members will be expected to hold the same responsibilities as non-titled executive members, and will have an added input into the sporting activities on the campus. They will be expected to support the sports teams on campus and encourage further sporting activities and fitness among the student population. Can be matriculated students from any institution.

All CUCSA executive members are required to contribute to the improvement of the student experience on the Dumfries campus and promote the aims of CUCSA, those being; The advancement of education, The advancement of citizenship and community development, The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture and science, The promotion of equality and diversity and The advancement of health.
